Treloar’s Students Past and Present to Take On TheParalympics

Treloarsl is well known for its achievements in Boccia and athletes from the school have been chosen to represent Team GB in the sport.

Boccia is a recreational sport that was originally designed for people with cerebral palsy but is now played at both national and international level by athletes with other severe disabilities affecting motor skills. The game is known for being rather complicated and the most common comparison is to say that it is a bit like bowls with some very distinct differences. The game involves aiming leather balls at a jack and trying to knock your opponent’s balls off course with points being awarded for getting your ball closer to the jack than your opponent. It is one of only three Paralympic sports that do not have an Olympic counterpart.

The following athletes from the school have been selected: Jess Hunter, who is a current student at the school as well as two past students David Smith and Dan Bentley. Current students Andrew Morgan and Ce Turk have also been selected as reserves for the Boccia team.

As well as Boccia, staff member Martin Sinclair has been selected for the Paralympic seven-a-side football team and current student Maxine Moore has been named as a reserve for the athletics team.

The school extend their congratulations to all the hardworking athletes whose long hours of training have paid off. They also send a special mention to the dedicated Boccia coach Barry Bowden and his assistant Kim Smith.

Away from boccia, staff member Martin Sinclair has been selected for the Paralympic seven-a-side football team, while current student Maxine Moore has been named as a reserve for the athletics team.

Congratulations to all the hard-working athletes, whose long hours of training has paid off – not forgetting, of course, the dedicated Treloar’s boccia coach Barry Bowden and his assistant Kim Smith.

The Treloar Trust is made up of a school and a college whose main goal is to prepare young people with physical disabilities for adult life by providing them with the skills and confidence to achieve their full potential.
